Mission

mandate

Acts to Grind Theatre (ATGT) is founded and managed by a group of local performing artists in the Greater Montreal region. These like-minded individuals from varied backgrounds collaborate to create theatre productions for the diverse community of our fair city.

The aim of Acts to Grind Theatre is to engage its audience through compelling productions that provoke, question, challenge and entertain. As our name implies, we have a specific motivation behind the initial selection of each play we produce, and we strive to take each play and grind it act by act to sharpen and polish it until we achieve the best possible interpretation ready for the stage.
And also, we couldn’t resist the pun.

Our major area of focus is on the creation, development and production of works by the finest playwrights for an adult audience. Selecting material that is uplifting, insightful and thought provoking and that stimulates while entertaining the audience  is paramount to achieving our vision.

A member of a minority community in Quebec, ATGT is principally an Anglophone theatre company, producing and promoting English-language theatre works. ATGT has occasionally crossed the language divide with our productions. Presenting work with a bilingual (French-English) cast creates another great opportunity for local talents while expanding our audience.

ATGT has on occasion produced outside of our local region. When and where the opportunity has presented itself, we have taken our work that originated here and exported it to other regions and provinces. This not only broadens our audience, but also enhances the artists’ experience.

Since its inception, our productions have led many artists to expand their professional development. ATGT provides commissioned professional training for our artists to hone their craft in order to facilitate and enhance their creative goals. Many artists have sought to return to the team thereby creating an ATGT family of diverse and talented individuals. Creating more opportunities for local artists to engage their talents while providing paying work is always at the forefront of our selection decision process.

Whether facilitating the development of contemporary new works or the rethinking of the modern classics, Acts to Grind Theatre always strives to consistently deliver productions of the highest quality.
